This is the House the Word Built:
A recording of the poem

This is my own home recording of the poem commissioned by Writers Centre Norwich on the occasion of the official opening of Dragon Hall, Norwich as their new home. It was written in the second half of September and performed yesterday, National Poetry Day on 8 October 2015

The text of the poem is in the previous blogpost. It was very much intended for oral performance. Hence the recording

Dear George

A resonant reading of a powerful poem.

Best wishes from Simon R. Gladdish

listened to this on my ipad last evening late...love the rhythm and repetition of it...reminded me of well loved nursery rhymes.

This is definitely an aural poem. At some points it even has the lilting 'beat' of Dylan T's Under Milk Wood "the first pub" "the old barge" "the night" and the list of names which could be expanded and such texts as I think you could produce maybe of Linollnshire poachers or something of equal notoriety based on many of the lines and phrases but for me without "he house the word built" which I think distracts somewhat. Good luck and thanks.
