Ring out the bells!! Five minutes ago a phone-call from son-in-law, Rich, to inform us we are grandparents! Daughter Helen gave birth to a daughter at 07.30 this morning! As yet unnamed! Norwich South loses Charles Clarke but gains a new member! We didn't even know she had gone in to labour (not Labour in this case)! Maybe she had gone into libdem!
And I to Peter Porter's funeral - just as I wrote a few days ago about things dying and things newly born.

Many congratulations on being a grandparent. It is a fine and happy thing and I wish you much joy.
Thank you very much, Nicole. It is indeed a fine and happy thing!
Congratulations to mum and dad and my very best wishes for a long and happy life to 'Baby'.
Also, congratulations to 'Grandma' and Grandad' (as we call them here in The Potteries). If this is your first, George, you'd better be prepared for a whole new emotion. Believe me, it's one that will bring so much joy into your life that you will become a different being.
I'm so happy for everyone.
Result! Congrats to all.
Sláinte George.

An old friend's first daughter was born three months after his dad died, and he reckoned there was defnitely something magical involved.

Thank you all very much from an internet cafe in London. As I think I say, am in London for Peter P's funeral in about an hour. What a strange year this has been so far.
Congratulations, Grandpa, and to all the family! We'll be waiting for the name and for pics of you and Grandma holding her like the pros you are.
Am so very happy for you. You will now fall in love with new baby and it will be different from any experience (of before). Lots of love and congratulations to Rich and Helen.
